Class Descriptions

6th Grade Language Arts:

  • Grammar - We will work in the grammar textbook during class time. The students will be expected to complete workbook pages for class work and/or homework. We will also do various small projects throughout the year to enhance our understanding of the English language.

  • Writing - Students will be guided through the five-step writing process: Prewriting, Drafting, Revising, Proofreading, and Publishing. Students will be expected to use what they have learned about grammar to improve their writing. Students will be given ample time to complete their writing assignments. Students will also be instructed in the 6 Traits of Writing and will receive rubrics prior to a formal written assignment. The rubric will allow the student to know my expectations. Some photography may be required for written assignments.

  • Reading - Please refer to the Reading Requirement section on my main page.

  • Vocabulary Workshop - This program will enhance vocabulary development in students. Each week the students will be introduced to 20 new vocabulary words. Approximately every 4th week the students will review for a Unit test (this will cover 3 units). The students are highly encouraged to begin studying the vocabulary words throughout the week - DO NOT wait until the night before the test to try to memorize everything. Unless otherwise specified, students will have vocabulary workshop tests on Tuesdays.
