Kindergarten Homework Guidelines
Each day, please look over your child's work that is sent home in the BEACH book and initial the daily behavior calendar as well as the weekly newsletter. Please help reinforce skills by practicing at home and providing encouragement. Occasional assignments may be sent home to complete with parents.
Beginning the second or third week of kindergarten, we will have letter/sound of the week homework to do each week. One (or two, if we are learning a vowel) sheets will be to think of and write words that begin with that sound. The other homework sheet will be for writing practice of that letter and choosing one of three suggested activity projects to do at home. The homework will be sent home on Friday or Monday; students will have until the following Friday (or last day of the week) to turn their homework sheets in. If they are completed before the end of the week, please send them in when they are completed. All homework sheets will be placed in the "Homework" Pocket of their BEACH book. When your child returns their completed homework sheets to school, it is their responsibility to take it out of their BEACH book and turn it in to their teacher.
Spelling words and Homework begins in January. The spelling words will usually be taken from our list of high frequency words we have learned for reading. Homework will be to write each word three times neatly and is due the next day after homework is sent home. We will have a practice test and if they spell all of the words correctly they are finished for the week! If they do not spell all of the words correctly, they will have another chance to spell the missed words on the final test.
