Forensics

 

  • The Forensics season has ended for the year.  HRA placed 3rd in One Act Play Championship and 5th overall.  The Forensics team party will be Tuesday, March 23.  Team members should bring their favorite ice cream toppings.

Congratulations to Jackson Palmer, student winner of the HRA Spirit of Forensics and Diane Davanport, adult winner of the Spirit of Forensics.  Holy Rosary had a wonderful year in Forensics with over 30 active members. Our One Act Play team placed 3rd in the Diocese.

  • Students should bring money for snacks and lunch to each tournament.
  • No electronic games/phones should be used only to call home.
  • Dress professionally—no jeans, t-shirts, shorts, tennis shoes
  • Be on time.
  • Parents should plan to chaperone, judge, or make sure the child is in the care of another adult
  • Practice with your child each night
  • Small black books may be purchased at Office Max

  • We will host the Championship on March 6 th. Parents help with food for judges and snacks for children.
  • Notes will be sent with students two weeks before each tournament. Please have all forms and money in on time. Checks should me made to Holy Rosary.
  • Trophies are awarded to 1 st, 2 nd 3 rd place.
  • Medals are awarded to 4 th, 5 th , 6 th place.
  • All pieces (except mime and audition) should have a memorized introduction.
  • Students introduce themselves to judges, give intro, begin piece.

The entry fee for each tournament is $8. Championship fees are $10. You do not need to enter every tournament to be on the team. Two weeks before each tournament, a form will be sent to you. Parents are expected to assist as judges or chaperones. The first judges’ training will be before the JPII tournament on Oct. 17. New students are encouraged to attend so they will see how the tournament is organized. These are the categories:

Audition (piece is given with little prep)

Dramatic Interpretation (memorized)

Duet Acting (two people memorized)

Duet Improvisation (two people with little prep)

Duet Interpretation (two people with a script)

Humorous Interpretation (memorized)

One Act Play (three or more, memorized, costumes)

Original Oratory (original piece with research, memorized)

Pantomime (Mime) (no talking at all- acting out a situation)

Poetry (poem or collection of poems read from a script)

Prose (story read from a script)

Storytelling (memorized)

There is not a fee for joining, but those who are performing with a script must have a small black binder-the size of a folded piece of paper.
