HRA Summer Reading Requirements 2010
The HRA Library will be open this summer.
Students are encouraged to stop by and check out some great summer reading books.
Each grade level has specific summer reading requirements for the 2010 Summer Reading Program.
Requirements are listed below.
SUMMER
Students going into THIRD grade
Read and take AR quizzes on TWO AR books of their
choice that are 2.0 grade level or higher.
Students must also purchase and read Flat
Students should not take an AR quiz on Flat Stanley.
Students will be discussing this book in the fall.
Students going into FOURTH grade
Read and take AR quizzes on TWO AR books of their
choice that are 3.0 grade level or higher.
Students should be prepared to do a book report or fall project on one of their book choices when school begins.
Assignments will be handed out the first week of school.
Students going into FIFTH grade
Read and take an AR quiz on ONE AR book of their
choice that is 4.0 grade level or higher.
Students must also purchase and read The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe
by C. S. Lewis and Crash by Jerry Spinelli.
Students are required to take AR quizzes on both of these
selections during the summer months.
Students will be taking a total of 3 required AR quizzes this summer.
Students going into SIXTH grade
Read and take an AR quiz on ONE AR young adult
book of their choice.
Students must also purchase and read From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler by E. L. Konigsburg.
Students should not take an AR quiz on From the Mixed Up Files…
Students will be discussing this book in the fall.
Students going into SEVENTH grade
Read and take an AR quiz on ONE AR young adult
book of their choice.
Students must also purchase and read Out of the Dust by Karen Hesse.
Students should not take an AR quiz on Out of the Dust.
Students will be discussing this book in the fall.
Students going into EIGHTH grade
Read and take an AR quiz on ONE AR young adult
book of their choice.
Students must purchase and read Witch of Blackbird Pond by Elizabeth George Speare.
Students should not take an AR quiz on Witch of Blackbird Pond.
Students will be discussing this book in the fall.
DATES FOR AR TESTING & SUMMER CHECKOUT
Monday, June 14th – 10:00-2:00 Tuesday, June 22nd – 4:00-6:00
Monday, June 28th – 10:00-2:00 Tuesday, July 13th – 4:00-6:00
Monday, July 19th – 10:00-2:00 Tuesday, July 27th – 4:00-6:00
Last day for summer AR testing is Friday, August 20th at 3:00.
All summer tests must be taken by this date!

Students may check out books during these dates and times for summer reading!
