Tim Keogh, Principal |
One of the first tasks I undertook when I stepped into the designated office on my first day as principal of Holy Rosary Academy was a modest reorganization of the furniture. In the process of moving things around, I came across a poster titled "I've Learned That ...". The poster is just that - a list of things its author learned at various ages. I decided to borrow the idea and am using this web page to periodically share with you things I learn throughout my rookie season as an elementary school principal. Principal Learning 1: There's no place like home. L. Frank Baum's Dorothy had to get caught in a cyclone, drop a house on a Wicked Witch, rely on the kindness of Munchkins, befriend a Scarecrow, Tin Man and Cowardly Lion, liquidate a second Wicked Witch, and click the heals of her silver slippers three times to learn it. All I had to was travel 156 miles south on a yellow bricked road called I-65! After living in Louisville for 21 years, leaving Cards Country was more emotional for me than I had anticipated. I left behind friends who had become like family to me, colleagues at Mercy Academy and DeSales High school who helped me grow as a teacher and principal, and a treasure trove of memories. But none of that compares to the delight I've known since coming home to my mother, to my sisters and their families, to the Donelson area and to Holy Rosary Academy. I am enjoying reacquainting myself with families from my "wonder years", friends who walked the halls of HRA and Father Ryan with me, the Sisters of Mercy living at Mercy Convent who taught and nurtured me, and students and colleagues from my brief but best 3 years at St. Bernard Academy. One sure sign to me that I was meant to be back was the completion of all the Briley Parkway construction within days of my arrival! A friend in Louisville, herself a Nashville native, gave me a framed poster as a parting gift that reads "Life takes us to unexpected places. Love brings us home." God is Love; God has brought me home. My heart is full of joy. (August 15, 2007) |
