Kindergarten RulesDiscipline Policy |
|
Dear Parents, I am delighted that your child,________________, is in my class this year! I have developed a classroom discipline plan, which affords every student guidance in good decision making about his/her behavior and thus, an opportunity to learn in a positive, nurturing classroom environment. Your child deserves the most positive educational climate for his/her growth. I feel that together in this process we can make a difference. I also feel it is important for parents and teachers to instill “The Three R’s” : RESPECT for themselves and for others, RESPONSIBILITY for their own social behavior and tasks assigned to them by authority figures, and a RESOURCEFUL attitude toward to challenges of life.
The plan below outlines our classroom rules, positive rewards for appropriate behavior, and the consequences for inappropriate behavior. These rules, rewards, and consequences are taught and demonstrated thoroughly the first few days and are enforced after a reasonable time for understanding and adjustment. RULES
REWARDS To encourage students to follow our classroom and school rules, appropriate behavior is recognized in the following ways:
If a child chooses to not follow the rules I use the following system to actively involve the children in monitoring the progression of rule infractions. The children will visually see the steps that are taken to encourage and improve their behavior. Each child has a clothespin with his/her name on it, and we have three “behavior face circles” displayed in the room for the clothespins. Each morning everyone’s clothespin starts on the green “happy face”. If it becomes necessary for a warning (this is always after a second chance verbal warning with an explanation), they will move their clothespin to the yellow “warning face” (5 minute time out and no stamp or sticker, “S” in BEACH book instead). If there are further rule infractions, the child will again move their clothespin, this time to the red “sad face” which is divided into various consequences (as described below) If they have moved their pin to the red face, they will receive no stamp/sticker and have an "N" in BEACH book instead. CONSEQUENCESFIRST Infraction: Verbal warning with explanation (“second chance warning”, does not move clothespin or lose stamp/sticker. SECOND Infraction: Move clothespin to yellow “warning face”, lose 5 minutes of free time, no stamp or sticker in beach book, "S" instead.
FIFTH Infraction: Send to principal. SEVERE CLAUSE: SEND DIRECTLY TO PRINCIPAL/POSSIBLE DETENTION DAILY STAMPS OR STICKERS As an immediate reward at the end of each day, those children who have followed the rules and have stayed on the green face, will receive a stamp or sticker in their BEACH book to show Mom and Dad they had a good day (they do not lose their stamp or sticker for a "2nd chance" warning only). If they do not receive a stamp/sticker, it is their responsibility to tell you why. You will also receive a report of each day’s behavior in their beach book on their monthly behavior calendar. WEEKLY REWARD Each child who has received a “G” for the entire week of good behavior will be allowed to choose a special treat from the treasure box on Friday or Monday. Effective classroom management enhances our learning environment and works hand in hand with good parent/teacher communication concerning both appropriate and inappropriate behavior. It is my hope that we can work together effectively for the benefit of your children. Attached you will find an explanation of the grading and behavior codes you will see on your child’s papers and weekly folder. Please review our classroom discipline with your child and the sign and return the form on the next page. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
