    Classroom Guidelines

Dear Parents,

I am looking forward to working with your child this year in the second grade. I will need your help and cooperation in making this a successful year for you and your child. The following are some things you and your child need to know.

Arrival at school – Students may come to the classrooms at 7:30. Before this time, they will wait in the dining hall. They will be considered tardy after 7:45. An adult must sign the child into the office when they are tardy.

Absence – Please send a written note when your child is absent for any reason. Emailed notes will not be accepted by the office. (Follow the handbook for this!!!)

Medications – The office must have a form filled out if your child needs to take medicine on a daily basis. A doctor’s form also needs to be filled out and kept in the office. If your child has an inhaler it may be kept in the classroom. Please let me know if your child has any food allergies.

Parties, Invitations – We will celebrate each child’s birthday in our classroom either on their birthday or on another date agreed upon by the parent and teacher. (If your child has a summer birthday, just let me know when you would like to celebrate!) On this date, the students may come out of uniform ( except on field trip days.). You may also bring a treat for the class and join them for lunch. No birthday treats in the cafeteria for lunchtime! Invitations and Thank you notes may NOT be passed out at school!

Snack – We will have snack time shortly before 9:00. Please send in a healthy snack with your child. Also, I highly recommend that you send in a bottle of ice water with your child. Please make sure that this bottle does not leak and the top closes.

Reading & Spelling – The students will be given new spelling words every Monday. The words will be written in their Agenda. Reading and Spelling tests will be given every Friday.

Homework – We will use the student’s Agenda notebook everyday to record their homework. Please check to make sure that the students have completed their homework. It needs to be returned to school each day. If there is no homework, it will be written in the agenda.

Class Weekly folders – Each week you will receive your child’s work, grades and a weekly behavior grade. Please review this with your child. Sign and return it the next day.

Volunteers – There are many opportunities to volunteer your time in the classroom. Opportunities include Room Parent, party helpers, readers, organizing an art project or simply volunteering your time preparing centers, etc. As for readers, I am very flexible. If you want to read to the class, just let me know and we can work around your schedule.

***All volunteers must have a Profile form in the office 2 weeks before coming into the classroom and helping out!!!

Emergency release forms – Please make sure that these are up to date. Also, if your child is leaving with another child for a Brownie or Cub Scout field trip, etc. you must write me a note on or before that day.

Dismissal – Please review dismissal procedures in the handbook.

Visitors – Please make sure that you sign in at the office and put on a nametag. Also, remember that students (even your own child) are not allowed to open the doors.

Webpage – Please check my webpage often!! As you may have already seen, there is a wealth of information on it! It is updated weekly! I usually have the class lesson plans posted by Friday of each week! I also include photos of the chidlren that I take here at school. If you do not want your child's photo posted on the webpage, please let me know. Your child's name will never be placed on the web.

Communication –  I will update you weekly and let you know waht we are learning as well as any reminders that you may need in the week concerning the school or class. I have found that many parents find this to be a beneficial way of receiving reminders and class information. If you would like to be sent this weekly email (usually on Friday), please let me know!

Also, if you have questions or concerns, PLEASE DO NOT HESITATE TO CONTACT ME! I believe that communication between parents and teachers to be of utmost importance and will contribute to our having a wonderful year.

I have discovered that the best way to communicate with me is via email (robertst@holyrosary.edu). You can call the main office at 883-1108 and follow the directions to my voice mail box. My extension number is 305.

Remember, I also have children! I am fully aware that what may seem like a little concern to us is a BIG concern to them. Please do not let little items bother you – call, email, or write and we can discuss ANY concerns that you have.

Lastly, thank you for trusting me to be your child’s teacher. It is such a privilege to teach your child and take them through the Sacrament of Reconciliation and First Communion. It is truly an honor and blessing to be here.
